How to Add Quick-Type (word expander) Shortcuts

Overview

The InfraWare Transcription Client (ITC) allows you to customize your Quick-Type preferences for an enhanced, user-friendly, experience.   This feature saves you time and keystrokes by filling in words for you based on pre-set parameters that you have already entered into the Quick-Type screen. 

Solution

To enter your preferences into the Quick-Type screen, just follow the quick, easy steps below: 

• Open User Settings for the ITC:
  • From the ITC Main Window, press F10 or go to the Settings menu ⇒ User Settings ⇒ Edit User Settings.
  • From the ITC Editor, go to the Tools menu ⇒ Options ⇒ User Settings or go to the Insert menu ⇒ Quick Text or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + F3 to manage Quick Type entries.
    
• Click on the Quick Type tab.  The screen below will appear.  From this screen, you will enter the text that you wish to be replaced by typing just a few letters.
  • Begin by entering the Quick-Type abbreviation that you wish to use in the Replace: field followed by what the InfraWare Transcription Client is supposed to Quick-Type for you in the With: field.
  • Click Add.
    
• Click Save at the bottom of this screen to exit and save your Quick-Type Preferences.
• Alternatively, a Quick Type entry can be added from the ITC Editor by using Alt + Shift + F3

• If a user attempts to add a Quick Type that already exists, the ITC will display an error indicating that the shortcut already exists and will not allow the user to overwrite the entry.

Note: Some special characters are not recognized and should therefore not be included in Quick Type entries.

• Dash "-" is not recognized.

Quick Type shortcuts can end with punctuation marks (e.g., "qt;").  *Note* Putting punctuation marks inside of the shortcut is not supported, however.
