Are InfraWare programs compatible with Windows 8?

Answer / Solution

Windows 8 Compatibility

Summery

Anybody considering the adoption of Windows 8 should be aware that the user experience is significantly different from that of prior versions of Windows.  Many users will find these differences a step forward, but some will find the changes disruptive.  Please see Microsoft's website for details.  InfraWare applications have been demonstrated to install and operate as expected on Windows 8 computers.  Behavior of programs is slightly different in areas that Windows controls, such as pop-up windows that display messages.

Windows 8 comes with Internet Explorer (IE) 10, and subject to minor screen formatting differences, IE 10 has also been demonstrated to work properly.

Please Note: When installing client applications such as the InfraWare Dictation Client (IDC) and the InfraWare Transcription Client (ITC), users might receive a pop-up message. The message will say "Windows protected your PC. Windows SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk."  You will want to click on the "More Info" link. This will open up the pop-up window further which will allow you to click "Run Anyway". Once the application is installed, you might receive this message one more time before you get to the login screen. You will want to choose "More Info" again as well as click on "Run Anyway". Once you have experienced this screen twice, in our experience it will not reappear.

Internet Explorer 10: You might find that the sorting arrows are not available to sort columns on some of the reports in the Secure Web Portal and/or the InfraWare Management Console (IMC).  In order to see these arrows, while using Internet Explorer 10, you will want to run in compatibility mode. This can be turned on by going through the following steps:

  1. Click on the Gear in the top right hand of the IE Window (can also press Alt + X)
  2. Choose F12 Developer tools
  3. Click on the "Browser Mode: IE10" found at the bottom of the window
  4. Click on Internet Explorer 10 Compatibility Mode
  5. Press F12 to close the developer tools window
  6. Re-run your report
