Error removing client program from Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs

Answer / Solution

Error Removing Client Program from Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs

Overview

The proper way to remove an InfraWare client application is through the Control Panel (Start, Settings, Control Panel) with Add or Remove Programs.  In addition to proper removal, this process releases your license key so it can be made available for a fresh installation.  Sometimes, however, Windows will report an error trying to remove an application.

Solution

When this happens, you can still remove the program by using a utility that Microsoft provides called MSI Cleanup.  A link to download the free utility and instructions are located on Microsoft's website at this location:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

  • Download and install the program, then launch it.  The utility displays all installed programs and allows you to select one for removal.  Be very careful.  You can damage your computer by removing the wrong item.

Note: If you follow this procedure, the license key will probably not be released and made available for a future installation.  If this is the case, contact InfraWare Customer Support to request that it be manually reset.  License key availability can be viewed by account administrators in the InfraWare Management Console (IMC).
