What are the options for First Draft Phrases?

Answer / Solution

First Draft Phrase Options

Summary

There are various things an Author could say when starting this section of the template.  For instance, if you are adding a region for the Medications section of the document, you may want to add “Medications,” “Current Medications,” and “Present Medications” as phrases.  When First Draft recognizes any of those phrases in the speech recognition output, it will begin redirecting the text to where the field is locatedSee KB757 for details on how First Draft Phrases work.  See KB567 for the heading sensitivity tuning option.

  • Either create a First Draft Region (Ctrl+Shift+R) or a First Draft Area (Ctrl+Shift+A)

  • Basic:  In the Basic view you can enter phrases the Author may say to start this Region.  Phrases entered in this section tell First Draft what is said by the author to start this Region.  These phrases will NOT be included in the draft output.
  • Advanced:  The Advanced view gives you additional phrase options:
    • Said before Region:  Phrases entered in this section tell First Draft what is said by the author directly before this Region starts.  These phrases will be included in the draft output.
    • Said to start Region:  Phrases entered in this section tell First Draft what is said by the author to start this Region starts.  These phrases will NOT be included in the draft output.
    • Said After Region Starts:  Phrases entered in this section tell First Draft what is said by the author after this Region starts.  These phrases will be included in the draft output.

In the example above you can see "no known drug allergies period" is a phrase in the Said before Region.  In the Said to start Region the phrase "new-paragraph physical exam" is entered. In the Said after Region starts the phrase "patient is a well developed well nourished" is entered.  The draft output might look like this:

Allergies:  No known drug allergies.

Physical Exam:  Patient is a well-developed well-nourished ....
