How do I Control Audio Settings in the ITC?

Answer / Solution

How to Control Audio Settings in the ITC

Overview

The InfraWare Transcription Client (ITC) allows you to control the audio of each dictation while you are working on that dictation. Observe the Audio Controls of the Function Panel.

Solution

Notice that you have several options that you may choose from for each dictation. You may:

  • Change adjust the Audio Progress in order to go to a specific place farther into the dictation. The keyboard shortcuts for the Audio Progress are:

      • To Fast Forward the Audio: Ctrl + ]
      • To Pause the Audio: Ctrl + \
      • To Resume Play or to Play the Audio: CTRL + \
      • To Rewind the Audio: Ctrl + [

  • Adjust the Volume of the dictation, simply move the slider bar to the left or right with your mouse.

  • To Adjust the Play Speed of the dictation, you may move the slider bar to the left or right to slow the dictation down or to speed it up. This may be done at any time throughout the dictation
      • To Increase Speed:  Ctrl + +
      • To Decrease Speed:  Ctrl + -
      • To Reset Speed:  Ctrl + 0

  • Silence Skip:  Dictation will now go through a process that will attempt to detect periods of silence (where there is no dictation in the audio file).  If this process is successful you can enable automatic skipping of silence in the ITC Function Panel, Audio (F2) tab.  Pressing Shift + F12 will toggle this setting.  See KB948 for details.
    • Waveform:  As a compliment to Silence Skip, the ITC will now display the waveform (graphical representation of the audio) as a sub-tab under the Audio (F2) tab.  As playback occurs, the red arrow at the bottom will indicate the current audio position.  The MT can also use their mouse to click on the waveform to skip to a desired location.  The waveform is displayed by clicking the sub-tab highlighted in the first image below, or by pressing Ctrl + F2 (pressing F2 will continue to display the regular Audio Control sub-tab).
  • Synchronization:  When editing with First Draft you may also choose to Synchronize the Audio and Text. If you wish the cursor to follow along with the Text while the Audio plays you may either checkmark the box on the Audio Controls tab of the Function Panel or you may hit F12 or Ctrl + Spacebar to toggle the Synchronization on or off.  See KB97 for more details on this feature.
    • While the text and the Audio are Synchronized, you must stop the dictation to make a correction. Alternatively, when you notice an error that needs to be corrected, you may immediately hit F12 or Ctrl + Spacebar move to the location of the error and correct it all while listening ahead in the dictation. To Synchronize the Text and the Audio, simply hit F12 or Ctrl + Spacebar again.
    • Any Arrow Key or Keystroke combination with an Arrow Key → ← ↑ ↓ will disconnect the Cursor from the Audio position.
    • Ctrl + Shift + Alt + Spacebar will Synchronize Audio to Cursor Position - First Draft Only

  • For additional Navigational keyboard shortcuts, see KB168.
